[Development] Suggestion - Remove Windows 7 as supported development host

The suggestion is to remove Windows 7 as a supported development host, but keep it as a target. From the numbers I have access to, more than 55% of the users are on Windows 10. However, I would like to get feedback on this in case there are other opinions.

Can you elaborate on the expected benefits of removing Windows 7 as a supported development host platform? I think our major pain points are in supporting Windows 7 as a target platform. I don't see any advantages in dropping it as a "host platform".

Hi, you mean I will not able to use Qt Creator on my Windows 7 machine
after 5.12? Please do not toss Windows 7 out of the window this fast.

Don't know about MSVC2021 yet, but MSVC2019 is the same 32-bit flavored
app that MSVC2017 is and MSVC2019 will run on Windows 7 SP1, i.e. I will
be able to build Qt Creator on Windows 7 with it. Please if possible
also allow me to continue to work in Qt Creator on Windows 7 in Qt 5.13
and 5.14.

Is there any reason why to drop W7 as dev. platform? I use it as my main
developer platform...
Telling the truth I use it at my home for general purpose, too, no plan to
upgrade to W10 in foreseeable future - mainly being a spy sw, especially at
the beginning;) -, it is supported platform at my workplace (company with
100k+ employees), etc...

Please, keep it in the mix as long as feasible...

Given that Microsoft has been trying really hard to push Windows 10
into everyone's and everyone's dog's throat for three years now the
fact that this is *only* 55% makes me think that there are quite a
few people trying really hard to not upgrade, and in this situation
it seems plausible to me that given a choice between {swallow Win10
+ develop with Qt 5.13+} vs {stick to Win7 + drop Qt} people may
choose the latter.

So no, I am not convinced this is a good idea.

from non-Windows to Windows this would force Windows 10 for *any*
Windows-targeting development.

Thanks for all the feedback. It seems that Windows 7 is still standing tall. The initial idea was that we probably could remove it, as regular support for Windows 7 ended in 2015. However, from the feedback it is clear that the cost of removing it is greater than the gain. Suggestion revoked.
